Paint booth exhaust filter grids are the structural support frames that hold exhaust filter pads in position within the floor exhaust pit or exhaust panel of a spray booth. Without a properly functioning grid, filter pads can shift, bow, or collapse under airflow pressure — creating gaps that allow unfiltered exhaust air to bypass the filter media and reach the exhaust fan and ductwork. Over time, grids corrode from exposure to paint, solvents, and moisture. When corrosion causes deformation or when a grid is damaged during filter changes, replacement is needed to maintain proper filter seating and consistent exhaust filtration performance.

When to replace filter grids
Inspect grids during scheduled filter changes. Replace when corrosion causes visible bowing or warping, when paint buildup prevents filter pads from seating flat against the grid surface, or when physical damage creates gaps in the support structure. A flat, clean grid surface is essential for filter pads to seal correctly against the exhaust opening and prevent bypass air. Using a deformed or heavily corroded grid with new filter pads defeats the purpose of the filter change.
